Child Care plus+ Newsletter Self-Study Training

Mission: This project is an innovative response to the need for accessible training related to maintaining the placements of young children with disabilities in early childhood settings.

Outcomes: Components for the Child Care plus+ Self-Study Training include the following:

    • a focus on the importance of including children with disabilities in early childhood settings
    • a process of self-assessment and reflection designed to impact practitioners' day-to-day practices
    • a format that addresses the needs of adult learners in rural communities.

This training will help Montana providers learn important information about including children with disabilities in their programs, meet the special issues and challenges faced by rural providers who face a lack of accessibility to training opportunities, and specifically focus on individualizing resources for providers and the children they care for. The self-study format offers a convenient, accessible, low-cost ($60.00) way to access quality training.

This project provides:

1) All Montana registered/licenced child care providers will receive a brief, easy-to-read information packet describing the availability of eight approved hours of distance learning training available through this training opportunity.

2) Upon registration for any or all of the training hours, providers will receive a one-year subscription to the Child Care plus+ quarterly newsletter and a Learning Packet of assignments and information related to the current newsletter topic. This packet must be completed and returned for 2 hours of training credit. By offering 8 hours of training, we will better meet the needs of child care providers in rural and undeserved areas to meet the state's minimum training requirements. The Learning Packets (approximately 10 pages of information, readings, resources, and worksheets) will be used by providers to improve their knowledge and skills, and meet the Career Path/Practitioner Registry training requirements.

3) Access to free individualized technical assistance through the Child Care plus+ project staff. Technical assistance includes one-on-one phone consultations and problem-solving, copies of resource materials, access to the Child Care plus+ Resource Library materials, and other Child Care plus+ resources a provider may need. The combined expertise of the staff allows them to individualize information and resources to fit each participants' individual circumstances. Access to the national contacts and inclusion resources the Center has accumulated can directly benefit the child care providers of Montana.

Project Description: This project is a one-year specialized training grant for child care providers in Montana. $60.00 for a one-year subscription to the Child Care plus+ newsletter and eight hours of approved training. Discount of $10 per person if you are enrolling 5 or more participants from a program.

Training Period: October 1, 2006 - September 30, 2007
