Higher
Education for Non-Served and Underserved Areas
EC Rural is a collaborative
project with the University
of Montana - Western designed to offer early childhood courses
to individuals in Montana with limited or no access to higher
education opportunities because of the size and rural nature
of their communities.
Outcomes:
To
develop, implement, and evaluate an alternative
delivery method for academic course work. EC
Rural utilizes 1) a proven self-study method
of accessible delivery and 2) approved early
childhood content from an accredited institution
of higher education (The University of Montana-Western).
To
prepare current and future teachers of young
children in rural Montana by providing 24 academic
credits of core early childhood courses over
four semesters through a combination of intensive
institutes and self-study.
To
offer core early childhood coursework which
may be applied toward a Child Development Associate
(CDA) Credential, the Associate of Applied Science
in Early Childhood Education, a minor in early
childhood education, and other advanced degrees.
To
provide training and technical assistance for
Montana Higher Education Faculty to replicate
the model.
